At number 50 Acera del Darro Street, the García Lorca family lived from 1909 to 1916, having just arrived from Valderrubio. In this location, the Federico Cultural House in Granada serves as a starting point to showcase Federico in his city—the city where the musician, poet, illustrator, and playwright first awakened. It traces a path between the two sidewalks where he lived: Acera del Darro and Acera del Casino, surrounded by all the inspiration and stimuli that would lead him to become the genius he was—and still is.
Nearby landmarks include Café Alameda (El Rinconcillo), the singing cafés, Plaza Mariana Pineda, the now-vanished Cervantes Theater (where he first saw Margarita Xirgu perform), Café Suizo, the print shop and bookstore that published his first book Impressions and Landscapes, and the home of his first piano teacher, Antonio Segura. All of these are close to this cultural house, which was once his playground, his childhood and adolescence—now revived to bring back those years of Federico in Granada, and to return Granada to its Federico.
