He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Huelva, although from the beginning he showed his attachment to surrealism influenced by artists such as Adriano del Valle. In 1929, he enrolled in the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando and in the workshop of V\u00e1zquez D\u00edaz.<\/p>\n<p>In his hometown he exhibits twice at the People\u2019s Cultural Center. The first, in 1931, sepia and pencil portraits, and the second, in 1932, in a group exhibition entitled <i>New Art Week<\/i>. It was Jos\u00e9 Caballero who convinced Federico to collaborate with eight drawings, among them the <i>Death of Saint Rodegunda<\/i>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In 1960 the Garc\u00eda Lorca family commissioned him to design the sets for the premiere of <i>Yerma<\/i> at the Festival de Ambos Mundos in Spoletto (Italy), a success that would be repeated in 1962 with the staging of <i>Blood Wedding<\/i>, at the Fine Arts Theater, also in Madrid.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After the proclamation of the Republic, Caballero participated as set and costume designer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/biografia\/a-lomos-de-la-barraca\/\">La Barraca<\/a>, along with other painters such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/ontanon-gonzalez-santiago\/\">Santiago Onta\u00f1\u00f3n<\/a>, Ram\u00f3n Gaya, Alfonso Ponce de Le\u00f3n or Benjam\u00edn Palencia. It was not the only collaboration with Lorca. In 1934, he designed the poster for the premiere of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/obra-literaria\/yerma\/\"><i>Yerma<\/i><\/a> and signed, at Lorca&#8217;s suggestion, the surrealist illustrations that accompanied the edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/obra-literaria\/llanto-por-ignacio-sanchez-mejias\/\"><em>Lament for a Bullfighter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in the <em>Cruz y Raya<\/em> magazine by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/bergamin-gutierrez-jose\/\">Jos\u00e9 Bergam\u00edn<\/a>. After the war, his friends freed him somehow from his Republican past: he founded the theater group La Tarumba dedicated to classical theater, collaborated with the new regime and published in magazines such as <i>V\u00e9rtice<\/i> or illustrated books by Falangist writers such as Rafael Garc\u00eda Serrano.<\/p>\n<p>In 1960, the Garc\u00eda Lorca family commissioned him to design the sets for the premiere of <i>Yerma<\/i> at the Festival de Ambos Mundos in Spoletto (Italy), a success that was repeated in 1962 with the staging of <i>Blood Wedding<\/i>, at the Fine Arts Theater, also in Madrid. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Exhibitions on Caballero&#8217;s work followed from here on in different cities.
