Influential and painful, as the relationship, which included erotic attraction, ended abruptly, in the midst of a controversy that deeply affected the poet. Dal\u00ed encouraged the Granada-born artist in his facet as a draftsman and in his effort to understand modern painting. In fact, he reviewed his exhibition at the Dalmau gallery in Barcelona. A year earlier, in April 1925, Lorca had visited the Dal\u00ed family at their house in Cadaqu\u00e9s. &#8220;It is,&#8221; he wrote, &#8220;a kind of family different from normal and accustomed to social life, because they invite people to their home everywhere in the world except in Spain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The publication of &#8216;<em>Gypsy Ballads&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>ensured Lorca immediate success and the fame of <em>poet of gypsyism,\u00a0<em>which<\/em> influenced him negatively. Bu\u00f1uel and later Dal\u00ed, whose love affair with Federico had already weakened, were his greatest critics.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In 1926, Lorca together with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/falla-matheu-manuel-de\/\">Falla<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/de-los-rios-urruti-fernando\/\">De los R\u00edos<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/lanz-gonzalez-hermenegildo\/\">Hermenegildo Lanz<\/a> founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/lugar\/ateneo-de-granada\/\">Ateneo de Granada<\/a> where he gave a series of lectures of profound impact, among them the <em>Sketch of the new painting<\/em> and <em>The poetic image of Don Luis G\u00f3ngora<\/em>. The latter he sent to his friend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/guillen-alvarez-jorge\/\">Jorge Guill\u00e9n<\/a>. It was the beginning of a collective devotion to the poet from C\u00f3rdoba who lived between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and which culminated a year later with the tribute at the Seville Athenaeum that gave rise to the Generation of &#8217;27 and in which Lorca, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/alberti-merello-rafael\/\">Alberti<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/cernuda-bidon-o-bidou-luis\/\">Cernuda<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/bergamin-gutierrez-jose\/\">Jos\u00e9 Bergam\u00edn<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/chabas-marfil-juan\/\"> Juan Chab\u00e1s,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/diego-cendoya-gerardo\/\">Gerardo Diego<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/alonso-y-fernandez-de-las-redondas-damaso\/\">D\u00e1maso Alonso<\/a> and Mauricio Bacarisse participated.<\/p>\n<p>In 1927, he premiered in Barcelona and Madrid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/obra-literaria\/mariana-pineda\/\"><em>Mariana Pineda<\/em><\/a>, the heroine whose monument he could see from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/lugar\/casa-acera-del-casino-31\/\">his house on the Acera del Casino<\/a> in Granada. The premiere was delayed because of the doubts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/gregorio-martinez-sierra\/\">Gregorio Mart\u00ednez Sierra<\/a> who feared a reaction from the censors in the midst of Primo de Rivera&#8217;s dictatorship.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/obra-literaria\/primer-romancero-gitano-1924-1927-en-cubierta-romancero-gitano\/\"><em>Gypsy Ballads<\/em><\/a> brought him immediate success, although the fame of <em>poet of gypsyism<\/em> influenced him negatively. &#8220;I&#8217;m getting a little annoyed by my myth of gypsyism. They confuse my life and my character. I don&#8217;t want to in any way. Gypsies are a subject. And nothing more [&#8230;]. Besides, gypsyism makes me an uncultured, uneducated and wild poet [&#8230;]. I don&#8217;t want to be pigeonholed.
