Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca returned to Spain from Argentina at the age of 36, in full creative maturity and backed by international recognition.\u00a0On his return he receives a tribute from La Barraca<\/a> and, shortly after, from the Spanish University Federation at the Hotel Florida in Madrid where the Puppet Show of Don Crist\u00f3bal<\/em> is performed. In July he returns to the Huerta de San Vicente (San Vicente Farmhouse)<\/a> for Saint Federico’s Day and during the following months he finishes Yerma<\/em><\/a> and Divan del Tamarit<\/em><\/a>. The publication of this last collection of poems at the University of Granada, with a prolog by Emilio Garc\u00eda G\u00f3mez<\/a>, which is preserved, was truncated by time and war.<\/p>\n

In the intense summer of 1934, on August 11, his friend the bullfighter Ignacio S\u00e1nchez Mej\u00edas<\/a> was gored in the Plaza de Manzanares, from which he died shortly after. Lorca dedicated to him one of the top lay elegies of Spanish lyric poetry, the Lament for Ignacio S\u00e1nchez Mej\u00edas<\/em><\/a> which was published a year later in the magazine Cruz y Raya<\/em> with illustrations by Jos\u00e9 Caballero<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before his return to Madrid, in September, his friends Antonio Gallego Bur\u00edn<\/a>, Constantino Ruiz Carnero<\/a>, Luis Rosales<\/a> and Manuel Fern\u00e1ndez-Montesinos<\/a> offer him a dinner at the \u00daltimo Ventorrillo, on the outskirts of Granada.<\/p>\n

He begins writing Do\u00f1a Rosita the Spinster or the Language of the Flowers<\/em> <\/a>and premieres Yerma<\/em> at the Spanish Theater in Madrid by Margarita Xirgu<\/a> on December 29.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
