{"id":10728,"date":"2020-10-19T07:19:04","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T07:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/biography-of-federico-garcia-lorca\/dark-loves-1935\/"},"modified":"2022-01-27T11:03:43","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T11:03:43","slug":"dark-loves-1935","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/biography-of-federico-garcia-lorca\/dark-loves-1935\/","title":{"rendered":"Dark Loves (1935)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In contrast to the climate of uncertainty and political violence that was being generated in Spain, and which exploded in 1936<u>,<\/u> Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca wrote in 1935, during a stay in Valencia, some of the compositions of the most famous series of his amorous and secret poetry: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/discografa\/sonetos-del-amor-oscuro\/\"><em>Sonnets of Dark Love<\/em><\/a>, a collection of eleven love poems. The sonnets, whose first news of their existence comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/aleixandre-y-merlo-vicente\/\">Vicente Aleixandre<\/a> in a profile on Lorca published in the <em>Blue Monkey<\/em> in 1937, remained withheld by his heirs until their complete publication in the <em>ABC<\/em> newspaper in 1984 and, before that, in a non-venal edition of 250 copies.<\/p>\n<p>Two years earlier, during a visit to the Anfistora Theater Club, which he himself had promoted with his friend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/maortua-de-ucelay-pura\/\">Pura Maourtua de Ucelay<\/a>, formed by amateurs, he met a 19-year-old actor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/ramirez-de-lucas-juan\/\">Juan Ram\u00edrez de Lucas<\/a>, who had been sent to Madrid by his family to study Public Administration. Lorca maintained an ardent relationship with Ram\u00edrez, who kept the secret for 70 years, which inspired him to write the sonnets in whole or in part. Lorca promised Juan Ramirez de Lucas, then a minor, to turn him into a great actor, inviting him to accompany him on the tour of Mexico he had planned with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/xirgu-subira-margarita\/\">Margarita Xirgu<\/a> in 1936. Federico dedicated a romance to him after an excursion by both to C\u00f3rdoba, which begins with the verse &#8220;that blond from Albacete&#8221;. At the end of 1936, Rodr\u00edguez Rap\u00fan learned of the murder of his friend and decided to enlist in the Republican army.
