{"id":10640,"date":"2018-12-18T11:53:38","date_gmt":"2018-12-18T11:53:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/biography-of-federico-garcia-lorca\/"},"modified":"2021-09-20T07:27:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T07:27:12","slug":"biography-of-federico-garcia-lorca","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/biography-of-federico-garcia-lorca\/","title":{"rendered":"Biography of Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: 0f204b;\">1898 &#8211; TREE, STONE, FURNITURE<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca, one of the most important poets in Spanish in the 20th century, was born in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/lugar\/museo-casa-natal-en-fuente-vaqueros\/\"> Calle de la Trinidad, 4, in Fuente Vaqueros<\/a>, Granada, at &#8220;twelve o&#8217;clock at night&#8221; on June 5, 1898 and was baptized six days later with the name of Federico del Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n de Jes\u00fas (Federico of the Sacred Heart of Jesus).<\/p>\n<p>His parents were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/garcia-rodriguez-federico\/\">Federico Garc\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez<\/a>, a wealthy farmer and owner of numerous lands in the Vega, who had been widowed by his first wife, Matilde Palacios, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/lorca-romero-vicenta\/\">Vicenta Lorca Romero<\/a>, a teacher assigned in 1893 to the girls&#8217; school in Fuente Vaqueros. The couple remained in the Trinidad Street dwelling for only a few years. In 1901, they moved to Calle de la Iglesia where the family resided until their move, around 1906, to the neighboring village of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/lugar\/casa-familiar-de-valderrubio\/\">Asquerosa (Disgusting)<\/a> (later Valderrubio) where business demanded the presence of Federico Garc\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez. My childhood is learning letters and music with my mother, being a rich boy in the village, a bossy one&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Federico began his schooling at the age of four with his primary school teacher, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/rodriguez-espinosa-antonio\/\">Antonio Rodriguez Espinosa<\/a>. Their teacher Antonio Rodr\u00edguez Espinosa poses with them.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>His first interests, according to his nanny, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universolorca.com\/en\/personaje\/ramos-gonzalez-carmen\/\">Carmen Ramos<\/a>, were puppets and music, the same ones that later served to give free rein to his extraordinary inventiveness. But the great <em>influence<\/em> that Federico received in those early years was that of the splendid rural landscape of the Vega de Granada and the surrounding countryside. &#8220;Being a child,&#8221; he declared in 1934 in Buenos Aires, &#8220;I lived at one with nature. Like all children, I gave each thing, furniture, object, tree, stone, its own personality. I conversed with them and loved them&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In Fuente Vaqueros, Lorca, a rich child, also experienced the feeling of social injustice.
