Premiere of The Shoemaker\u2019s Prodigious Wife by Margarita Xirgu, 1930.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On December 24, 1930 (with the anger of Federico’s parents for not being at home on Christmas Eve) it premiered at the Teatro Espa\u00f1ol in Madrid directed by Cipriano Rivas Cherif<\/a>. The performers of this premiere were: Margarita Xirgu<\/a> (Shoemaker), Alejandro Maximino (Shoemaker), Matilde Fern\u00e1ndez (Boy), Jos\u00e9 Ca\u00f1izares (Adult), Femando Porred\u00f3n (Mr. Mirlo), Fernando Venegas (waiter), Julia Pachelo, Mim\u00ed Mu\u00f1oz and Pascuala Mesa (Neighbors).<\/p>\n

Lorca himself reads the prolog of the play, dressed in a star-covered cape. The scenography is by Salvador Bartolozzi (based on Lorca’s own drawings).
