Crazy about Lorca
Crazy about Lorca is a musical/poetry show created in Ireland by musician and composer Cormac Breathnach as a tribute to Federico García Lorca. The show premiered in April 2018 at the Students’ Residence in Madrid and, after being seen on different Irish stages, comes to the Federico García Lorca Center in Granada.
A group of Irish and Spanish poets recite poems by García Lorca in Spanish, Galician, English and Gaelic, accompanied by traditional music from Ireland and Spain. Lorca’s texts, selected by Keith Payne, an Irish poet living in Santiago de Compostela, are the center of this show, around which pivots the music of La Musgaña (Jaime Muñoz and Carlos Beceiro) and the composer Cormac Breatnach and the harpist Cormac de Barra.
Lorca’s poems from the Gypsy Ballads and Six Galician poems, among others, translated into Gaelic and English by Deasún Breatnach, Michael Nartnett, Keith Payne and Theo Dorgan will be read/sung.
Loco by Lorca is organized by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature with the collaboration of the Federico García Lorca Center, Granada UNESCO City of Literature and the Embassy of Ireland in Madrid.
Free admission until full capacity is reached.
